On the morning of August 26, 2026, a catastrophic flash flood tore through northern Nepal without warning. Triggered by an ice-rock avalanche in the Lhende river near the Tibet border, a wall of water up to 100 meters high swept down the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors. Within moments, entire Himalayan mountain towns were wiped out.
Families lost their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones in seconds. Surviving communities in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts are now entirely isolated, with roads and bridges destroyed, leaving survivors in desperate need of food, clean drinking water, emergency medical care, and temporary shelter.
This relief fund provides direct, on-the-ground support for search, rescue, and essential aid to affected families, as well as assistance in rebuilding devastated mountain settlements. Your support brings urgent survival assistance and hope to those facing unimaginable loss.
Updated Disaster Figures
Confirmed Lives Lost: 157 to 160 people confirmed dead across affected districts.
Missing Persons: Nearly 400 individuals remain unaccounted for, including local residents, security personnel, and over 340 foreign tourists and pilgrims.
Injured: Over 75 people currently hospitalized with serious injuries.
Infrastructure Destruction: 41 bridges destroyed (19 motorable bridges), 40 km of paved highways washed away, and 12 hydropower plants damaged.
Community Impact: Key settlements and markets—including Timure Bazaar, Syaphrubesi, Sole, and Akkare Bazaar—were completely swept away or buried under deep silt and boulders.
Update: Allocation of Funds for Flood Relief -
We want to provide a transparent update regarding how all funds raised through BuildWithIK and this campaign will be utilized. To ensure that relief reaches impacted communities effectively and reaches those who need it most, 100% of the funds collected will be distributed among three trusted organizations/groups:

Maya Gurung
Maya Gurung is a trailblazing Nepali mountaineer, a dedicated social activist, and a proud member of the historic Seven Summits Women Team. Born in a rural village in Sindhupalchok, Maya defied daunting societal barriers to forge her own path. She overcame the pressures of early marriage to ultimately conquer Mount Everest, going on to climb the highest peak on all seven continents alongside her team.
Beyond her extraordinary mountaineering feats, Maya is deeply committed to grassroots community development and systemic change. She has returned to her roots to create impact across multiple fronts:
Political Leadership: Driven by a desire for equality and broad social reform, Maya recently expanded her impact into politics. She serves as a political leader and the Sindhupalchok District President for the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), fiercely advocating for her home district on a national level.
Education Advocate: She actively leads initiatives to rebuild schools in rural Nepal, ensuring safe learning environments for the next generation.
Champion for Girls: She works tirelessly to combat child marriage and gender-based violence by empowering marginalized girls through education, mentorship, and outdoor sports.
