Rebuild for Kurt & Lynn Evers-Hellmich House Fire

Donation protected
Introduction:
Hello, Our names are Jason & Sierra Evers-Hellmich. We are the son and daughter of Kurt Hellmich and Lynn Evers, and we are raising funds for the rebuild of our childhood home that our dad, a woodworker, built himself over 30 years ago.

The Story:
On the evening of Friday, August 25th, Jason, Jason's girlfriend and her mom, a neighbor from up the hill, and Kurt were enjoying dinner while watching football when they noticed strange reflection of flames on the TV from the backyard deck. We scrambled to try and stop the fire, but we quickly realized there was nothing we could do to try and stop the flames. Within only a couple minutes, the flames had already engulfed the entire back outside wall of the house and back deck, causing the window to begin bursting from the intense heat. We all ran out of the home as the windows were popping behind us, and Kurt ran to the backside of the house to attempt to get the hose and put out the fire. After realizing it could not be stopped and suffering burns on his face and Jason pulling Kurt away from the home, Kurt fled from the property as well. He did not even have time to grab his shoes on the way out. This all happened in less than 2 minutes. Luckily our dad had left his keys in the truck out front, so he was able to quickly jump into the truck and drive down the street to the bottom of a neighbors driveway. As we drove away, we called the fire department. Fire engine after fire engine blazed past us as we stood at the bottom of a neighboring driveway down the street, the first arriving only about 15-20 minutes after our call. After waiting anxiously down the hill for what felt like an eternity as emergency blazed past us and we listened to all of the noise/popping explosions coming from up the street, the fire chief came down to where we were waiting and confirmed that although the had kept the fire contained to the structure, the roof had fallen in on itself. The structure along with everything inside would be a total loss.

How You Can Help:
We've continued to remind ourselves that it's only things, but some of the things that are irreplaceable include Disney memorabilia from Kurt's father, family heirlooms, and cherished items from family and friends, not to mention our father's pride for the home he worked so hard to build to provide for his family. Thankfully, everyone was able to get out of the home, there were no pets in the house, and the fire was contained to the structure so no neighboring properties on the hill were involved. The incoming support for our parents has been overwhelming. Love for our parents is the most important thing needed during this tragedy, but for those of you that have asked about financial support, this is the simplest and easiest way to help. At this point, we have no idea what to expect from the insurance with how much they will cover. Any funds raised above what we feel is necessary based on the settlement and covering the deductible will be donated back to Red Cross, the Fire Department, and any other organizations that have helped throughout this crisis.

Note: All funds raised will be directly provided to our parents, Kurt Hellmich & Lynn Evers, to aid in their rebuild and recovery efforts.
