Community Center Rebuild For Huni Kuin - Amazon
Donation protected
Our friends in the Amazon need us! We recently returned from the Saõ Vicente Village in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. It is beautiful protected land in the Amazon that is owned by Chief Tuwe and his Huni Kuin people.
On November 22, someone from a surrounding village broke into the village and burned down their maloka community center. The maloka is the heart of the village where they gather as a community to sing their songs, share their culture, pray, welcome visitors and pass their traditions onto their children. As their village is 2.5 days by boat down the river from the nearest city, it is very expensive to get the materials and supplies and get them down river. It was something they have worked for years to complete.
We would love to see the support Chief Tuwe and his village require to get this quickly rebuilt and restored. They have made the decision to share their ways with the outside world and not everyone agrees with them. That said after visiting them, we can see that with the way the Amazon is being decimated, they require advocates and support from the outside world to sustain their lifestyle and protect their ways! Please help with any donation you can!
