I am the child of two Burnt Savannah, Westmoreland natives. Following the catastrophic Hurricane Melissa, which passed over the island and made landfall between the parishes of St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland, the place where my parents grew up is practically destroyed. I am absolutely heartbroken as I have seen the houses of relatives and close friends severely destroyed and some completely flattened. I am also aware that many roads in the community have been left impassable due to debris, making it difficult for people to receive relief support or transportation in and out of the community. I have created this page to seek funding as my family intends to assist Burnt Savannah and surrounding communities in any way possible.
The funds will be used to buy supplies to facilitate the rebuilding of homes as many have been left homeless. We also need to provide the community with clean water and groceries as power cuts have left the people without water. The funds will also be used to provide personal care products (toiletries, feminine products, soaps, etc.). We are also looking to provide toys to comfort many children who had to experience this tragedy and may not be in school for a while.
Your assistance would be very much appreciated as this community of hardworking and vulnerable people need our support to build back their homes and livelihoods. Your compassion and generosity are the calm within the chaos.
