Help Rebuild the Rural St.Elizabeth Communities of Brompton, Fyffes Pen & Cotterwood After Hurricane Melissa
Hello everyone,
My name is Dr. Janice Watson-Dias, and I have spent countless childhood and adult vacations in my mother’s hometown parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, within the beloved communities of Brompton, Fyffes Pen, and Cotterwood, just outside of Black River. These places hold deep personal meaning for my family and me — they are where our roots run strong and where many of our loved ones still live. Today, those same communities have been devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
Many of the families we know personally are now in desperate need. Their homes have been destroyed. Roofs are gone. People are sleeping without shelter, with no food, no clean water, and no dry clothing. Some have lost everything.
We are raising funds to bring direct relief to these communities we cherish deeply. Because our family maintains close ties there, we can ensure that every dollar raised will go straight to the people affected — not through layers of bureaucracy or middlemen, but directly into the hands of those in need.
How the Funds Will Be Spent
Transparency is very important to us. All funds will be used specifically for:
- Emergency relief supplies: food, bottled water, hygiene products, clothing, bedding, and medical kits
- Temporary shelter materials: tarps, roofing sheets, plywood, and other basic rebuilding supplies
- Transportation and delivery costs: to ensure supplies safely reach Brompton, Fyffes Pen, and Cotterwood
- Local support and volunteers: modest stipends for local helpers assisting with distribution and cleanup efforts
We will share photos, videos, and updates of relief activities so donors can see the direct impact of their generosity.
Why This Matters
These are our people — our extended family, friends, church members, and lifelong neighbors. We can personally vouch that help is urgently needed and that your contribution will change lives immediately.
Please join us in helping Brompton, Fyffes Pen, and Cotterwood recover and rebuild. Every donation, every share, every word of prayer matters. Together, we can restore hope to our communities and remind them they are not forgotten.
With gratitude,
Dr. Janice Watson-Dias and Family
