Rebuild Boy Howdy Burgers After Hurricane Helene

Donation protected
Our hearts go out to our community and all the people that have experienced unimaginable loss and are still out there looking for family, friends, neighbors, and pets.

This storm was worse than anyone imagined and has left unbelievable destruction behind in so many states and small towns across the Southeast.

Boy Howdy Burgers was started by my husband, Christian Myers, in Asheville, NC, back in April 2023 as a weekly smash burger pop-up at DSSOLVR Brewing. Boy Howdy’s name was derived from our beloved Nana, Mrs. Helen Mills, who would use the expression when she was excited. At first, it was a side gig as he worked full-time as a craft beer sales rep for DSSOLVR. He eventually started popping up at other local bars and breweries and eventually even Charlotte, NC, and Jacksonville, FL, growing in popularity. In June of 2024, we were reached out to by one of DayTrip’s investors looking for a food vendor to fill their space, and they thought we would be the perfect fit. After some careful consideration, he decided it was time to move on from beer sales after 11 years in the brewery industry and took a leap of faith, and we started the process of opening the restaurant. With a projected opening date of mid to late August, we all spent countless hours cleaning, painting, and planning to get everything ready for opening.

As a family man and first-time dad to our 2-year-old daughter, Aurora Helen, he put in many late nights trying to make sure that it was perfect for opening day so he could provide for our family. Our first month in operation as partners with DayTrip was truly such a blessing, and it was so much fun being able to share our concept of good quality smash burgers, sour patch kids, good vibes, and smiles with our community.

I am beyond proud of him for following his dreams and leaving his job behind to take the chance of opening a new business. However, when Hurricane Helene hit western N.C., DayTrip/Boy Howdy Burgers, along with so many other small businesses along the French Broad, were completely destroyed. Because we were a part of DayTrip’s business but our own entity, all of the insurance coverages and benefits once claimed will be going to our wonderful partners, as they deserve, for taking all the risk. We, however, lost all of the items we purchased to get the business started and unfortunately don’t have any insurance on any of those investments or the loans we took out to get it going. We still have a mortgage and bills due and need to provide for our family and try to find a way forward.

We will be rebuilding, but we also must do our best to take care of our little family, and there is a chance after this crisis we may end up rebuilding again in a new city. Thank you to all that supported us in our short but beautiful 32 days of operation, and we look forward to hopefully seeing you one day at our new location, wherever that may be.

Please support relief efforts in our local communities first, as so many people are hurting and need our help. If you still feel like supporting our small business as we rebuild and start over somewhere new, it would truly mean the world to us, and we hope to share more delicious smash burgers with you very soon!

Sending love and light to each and every one of you. We are lucky to be here after this storm and are counting our blessings. We are very grateful for our community and how we have come together in these challenging times.

**Please note, the DayTrip GoFundMe was separate as they are a separate entity; Boy Howdy Burgers will not be receiving any of those proceeds.**
