Support the Lyn Family's Recovery from Hurricane Melissa

Donation protected
My family and I are seeking assistance in any form. The family home has been destroyed by the Category 5 hurricane. Hurricane Melissa tore through the coast and made landfall in the parish of St. Elizabeth, leaving behind unimaginable destruction. The home, which had stood for generations, was completely destroyed. The Lyn Family, and the members who actively resided at the home - Ms. Camile Lyn and Ms. Evan, her mother and our grandmother — are currently unhoused in Maggotty in the parish of St. Elizabeth (one of the worst-affected areas). Camile described 6 straight hours of pure terror, running from room to room with her ailing mother. She said she heard every single sound in the wind — ear-piercing whistling, a barreling truck, a car, a baby screaming, the sea crashing ashore (keep in mind Maggotty is inland). Camile and her mother suffered an extremely traumatic experience and anything to help is much appreciated

Why we’re asking for help now:
• The Lyn family in Maggotty lost nearly everything: mattresses, kitchen appliances, children’s school supplies, photos.
• With roads blocked and utilities down in the region, basic repairs are delayed and costlier than usual.
• The community is still without power making replacement and rebuilding challenging.
• The children’s schooling is disrupted; nearby school buildings also sustained damage.

How your donation will be used:
• Immediate shelter & safety: tarps, temporary roof support, clearing debris.
• Essential home rebuild: basic roof repairs, replacement of windows/doors, walls, and safe floor.
• Home goods & essentials: mattresses, kitchen equipment, children’s school supplies.
• Community recovery support: materials from local merchants in the parish, labor from local workers (this helps the whole area).

Goal & transparency:
We are aiming to raise USD $35,000 (or equivalent) which will be transferred with full transparency to trusted local contacts in Jamaica who will purchase and oversee the work in the St. Elizabeth parish area. We will provide periodic updates and photos (where possible) of progress.

Please donate today, and if you can, share this campaign with friends, family, and on social media.

Thank you for your compassion and support.
(And for our Jamaican friends reading this — if you’re closer to the region and can help materially or with labor resources, please reach out — we’ll coordinate.)

My name is Miles Murphy(grandson & nephew), my cousins are Sarah and Leah(daughters and granddaughters). We are organizing this fundraiser for relief and reparations after the category 5 hurricane. All funds will be directed from Miles to Sarah & Leah.
