Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Supporters of Local Businesses,
We are reaching out with heavy hearts and a humble request for help. On the morning of May 26th, our family-owned store, Amity Market, located in the heart of the Outer Sunset district of San Francisco, was devastated by a fire that tore through the back portion of the store, destroying everything in its path. The damage is extensive, with estimated costs already exceeding $50,000–$100,000. And the losses didn’t stop there.
The fire wiped out the building’s electrical system, leading to all frozen goods and many refrigerated goods becoming spoiled. The intense smoke left behind a powerful odor that seeped into nearly every item on our shelves, forcing us to discard almost our entire inventory. Just days later, while we were still reeling from the shock and trying to secure the store, thieves broke in and stole over $24,000 worth of tobacco, taking advantage of the lack of electricity and security.
We are now in a desperate situation. Our store is temporarily shut down, our employees are out of work, and we are unsure when—or even if—we will be able to reopen.

Our Story – From Broken to Beloved
When our family took over Amity Market in 2023, it was a completely run-down space: dark, dirty, smelly, with expired goods and an unsafe environment. But we saw potential. We poured tens of thousands of dollars into remodeling the store and completely transforming it into a clean, organized, and welcoming convenience store that this neighborhood could be proud of.
We went above and beyond to carry goods specifically requested by local customers, to create a space where everyone—from the elderly resident down the street to the family grabbing snacks for the beach—could feel seen, welcomed, and served. Word began to spread. Customers returned. People noticed. Neighbors told us they were proud to have a store like Amity Market in the Outer Sunset.
But those first two years were extremely difficult. Because the store was shut for renovations for so long, many locals thought we had closed permanently. We barely made enough revenue to keep up with loan payments from our renovation. Still, we never stopped showing up—working long hours, offering friendly service, and staying true to our belief that this community deserves the very best.

Why We Need Your Help
The recent fire, loss of power, spoiled inventory, and burglary have pushed us to the brink. It will take time for us to receive compensation for any damages that insurance might cover, and there’s a good chance that it will not be enough for us to start operating again. Meanwhile, the bills don’t stop. The rent, utilities, restocking, repairs, and payroll expenses keep adding up—even while we’re closed.
We’re doing everything we can: hiring overnight security, clearing out all goods, and starting the cleanup/repair process. But without immediate financial help from our community and supporters, we may not survive this.
⸻
How You Can Make a Difference
We are seeking to raise however much possible to cover:
• Structural repairs and electrical restoration
• Restocking of all inventory
• Security expenses and burglary losses
• Rent and overhead while the store is closed
• Wages to support our small team of loyal employees
• Additional restoration and cleanup costs
Any amount helps—$10, $25, $100, or more. If you’re not in a place to donate, sharing this page with your friends, family, and local community groups would mean the world to us. Together, we can get Amity Market back on its feet and continue serving the neighborhood with the warmth, care, and quality you’ve come to expect.

Let’s Rebuild Amity Market—Together
Being a small business owner in San Francisco is already tough—with high taxes, little city support, and rising costs. But we’ve stayed committed to making Amity Market something truly special. Now, we’re asking for your help in return.
Let’s not let this fire be the end of Amity Market. Let’s make it a turning point toward an even stronger comeback—one built not just by our family, but by the entire Outer Sunset community.
With heartfelt thanks,
The Amity Market Family
