Rebuild a piece of history, the Elkhorn Saloon

Hi there, my name is Mackie. The grandaughter of Richard- the owner of the Elkhorn Saloon in the small town of Sumpter, Or. Over the last few years my mom has taken control- and herself, my sister and my grandpa have worked hard to make this restaurant a place you want to come back to. If it wasn’t already a successful business- it sure succeeded expectations over the recent times. If you’ve passed through Sumpter, been there to enjoy the flea markets, or reside in this cute little town- you more than likely have been to the Elkhorn Saloon. Amazing food, cold beer, good company, and a place where memories were made.

It saddens me to have to share that during the early hours of August 16th- about 1:30am, I received a devastating phone call from my sister, letting me know that the Elkhorn was on fire. With little information known at that time- it was a given the building was at a total loss. While investigations are still taking place to determine the cause, it’s been said it was accidental and that there was nothing that could have been done to prevent this tragedy from happening. Heartbroken to say the least, the Elkhorn saloon is now gone.

The Elkhorn was a staple of the small town. It was a part of history. A legacy. The building itself has been around for over 100 years. My grandpa has been under ownership of the Elkhorn Saloon for the last couple of decades, so this place is near and dear to my heart and was like a second home to my family that resides in Sumpter. The Elkhorn is a place that deserves some love and help- not only for my family, but for the community of Sumpter and the history this building leaves behind. Any help that is given & raised will be provided to help with clean up and any beginning stages of rebuilding this legacy! It’s going to be a long process- but I know we will come out of top. I am confident that people will come together during this devastating time to help and support the community of Sumpter and support a local small business that was sadly taken away too soon. Let’s help our community in ways that it deserves!
