Rebuild 84-Year-Old’s Life After Devastating Flood

On the morning of July 5th, my dad woke up at 4 a.m., looked out his RV window, and saw his car underwater. Over the next two hours, the water levels at his RV park in Marble Falls, TX rose exponentially. When the water level reached his chest in his RV, he called his loved ones and told them goodbye. At 84 years old with numerous heart conditions, my dad knew that he wouldn’t survive 5 more minutes without any help. Luckily, first responders worked fast and rescued him just in time by helicopter and brought him to safety.

Although he was able to come out of the flood with only minor injuries, the flood destroyed his RV (which is his home) containing all of his belongings including his heart medication, his car, and his musical equipment (he has worked as a self-employed DJ for the past 60+ years). None of his belongings were insured, and he will struggle to work without his musical equipment.

He has been planning to move to Wales this year to gain access to better healthcare for his heart, as he is a UK citizen. His plan was to eventually sell his RV, car, and musical equipment to begin his life in Wales. This new life that he worked so hard for, which was supposed to help him gain more financial freedom, has been significantly hindered. No 84-year-old should have to start all over again.
