Late afternoon on September 5th, 2020 a wildfire grew out of control in rural Jamul, CA. My sister, who had just packed the car up to leave on a camping trip saw the smoke and soon after was advised to evacuate. They quickly packed up their goats, sheep, pigs, dogs, cats, and horse to be transported to safety. They grabbed their most sentimental and valuable belongings and my sister, along with her 4 children, headed west to my parents' house while her husband stayed behind to try and prepare the property for the worst. My brother-in-law left a few hours later after doing what he could to wet down the property and clear dry brush.  Luckily, everyone is safe and together, but they are now staying at my parents' house which still has no power. Overnight, we worried for their other animals and that their family home would be gone.

Luckily, they learned from a neighbor the next morning that their house endured some damage, but was thankfully still standing.  However, there is severe damage to the water and power lines, and other surrounding structures on their farm including their detached home office, storage shed, tack shed, and fencing. It will be weeks until they can live at home and then it will take much more time to restore the farm.

Not only is this farm their family home, and a sustainable food source, but it's a cherished place for our entire family.  Their situation could be so much worse, and we are all grateful. However, to help them rebuild and repair their home will take a lot of help, and possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars. No one is prepared to handle a disaster of this kind and they will need support and resources to move back home and return their farm to working order.

My other sister and I decided to set up this page to try and pull our resources together to help relieve some of the burden our family is facing. We welcome you to share and give if you are able. I know there are a lot of causes worthy of your funding, but even $1 and $5 donations really do help!

If you know anyone in East County San Diego offering shelter, construction, claim support, funding, or any other type of help, please let us know. Thank you for reading, caring, and supporting us. We have a lot of hope for what's ahead and we appreciate the help. This family is so deserving of our help and support and while my heart breaks for them, I hope the worst is behind us.

Thank you again!
