Rebekah’s fighting synovial cancer

Rebekah has been dealing with pain in her right leg for around 5 years after traveling back and forth from doctors/hospitals over the years being misdiagnosed with arthritis. The Rheumatologist that was treating Rebekah sent for an MRI whiched showed a 13cm tumour that sat just above her knee a biopsy was then done and unfortunately Rebekah was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma which is a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer. This type of cancer is very rare only between 1-3 in a million are diagnosed with this.

Rebekah underwent 3 rounds of 2 harsh chemotherapy drugs which resulted in 4 night hospital stays each time which resulted in having a blood transfusion and also had 25 radiotherapy sessions.

The aim was to save her leg by having a 12hr limb salvage surgery to remove the tumour and reconstruct her knee and thigh however after many conversations which each option available to her with her surgeon she decided to go with the last option which was Amputation. It was discussed that doing this she would have a more active life with a prosthetic rather than a salvaged leg and ofcourse Rebekah wanted to give her the best possible chance of getting rid of sarcoma for good!

Rebekah is now undergoing physio at the moment and will have her first mechanical leg very soon and in 6 months time will be put forward for a microprocessor leg which will be funded on the NHS however the type of leg that Rebekah wants to give her the best active life and has all the functions of a 'human' leg will not be funded due to cost. The cost is around £80-£90K as you can imagine no-one has this sort of money just to pay out therefore any money raised will go towards Rebekah getting the leg she wants and returning to a much more normal active life possible.
