Missions: Hearts of Guatemala

Donation protected
Four years ago, I traveled to Guatemala on a house-build trip with Teenagers Inc. While I was there, God opened my heart to the mission of the God’s Child Project (http://www.godschild.org/) and I always knew that I had to return. I am so happy to share that by His grace I am finally able to embark on a two month mission trip back to the area, working with children at GCP’s Casa Jackson center and visiting the neighboring villages north of La Antigua. Given my new career path and training as a postpartum doula, I feel now more than ever, passionately called to help these children and especially suited to now help in a unique way.

Casa Jackson is an emergency recovery center for malnourished infants and children in San Felipe de Jesús, Guatemala. The center was established to assist the estimated 49% of chronically malnourished Guatemala children. Additionally they offer valuable support to the nearby villages where the chronic malnourishment rate can reach up to 80%. The God's Child Project founded Casa Jackson to deal with the growing number of near-death infants being left on their doorstep.

The center continues to serve primarily infants but will also house children up to the age of 11 in times of need. Casa Jackson strives to provide a safe and exemplary environment for child development with special attention to their preparation of food, clothing, and hygiene. They promote quality nutritional education for families from across Guatemala, teaching parents better ways to use locally produced and highly nutritious foods from their own communities to nourish their families.

The God's Child Project's mission is to join together to assist God’s poorest children in their educational, social, physical, and spiritual growth.

As a volunteer with Casa Jackson I will join them in embracing the youth at the center as gifts from God, given to be our teachers, students, and children. I will stand by their sides helping them prepare to meet life and triumph in the eyes of God, their community, and themselves. In day to day operations, I will care for the malnourished infants, and be involved in parent education.

I feel so blessed to be able to give my time to Casa Jackson during this volunteer call. I look forward to supporting these children as God's children and working with the GCP team in outreach to their families and communities.

AND NOW, I am asking family and friends to join me on this mission in a few ways. First and foremost, I am most requesting your prayers. Specifically, I ask that you pray for my own wisdom and boldness as I embark on my first mission trip, safety as I visit some of Guatemala’s poorest villages, and above all - prayer for the health and wellness for the infants of Casa Jackson and their families. If you feel led to invest in this trip, I have created this GoFundMe to accept donations to complete the trip. Below is a breakdown for the trip specifics. In the event of God overflowing this campaign; all excess will be given directly to Casa Jackson or used to buy goods for the center before departure.

Mission Cost:
$700 – Flight
$685 – Lodging
(Directly supports host family in San Felipe de Jesús)
$35 – Airport transfer fee
$140 – Registration fee
$40 – Background Check Fee
$100 – Mandatory International Insurance
$3 – Airport Departure Tax

If you feel called to donate goods (diapers, wipes, powdered formula, clothes, or other baby goods etc), please coordinate with me directly at rebecca . e . [email redacted] [dot] com.

Although this one trip to a malnourished children's center in Guatemala is small, their needs are great. I hope you will consider supporting this ministry and Casa Jackson with your prayers, donations, or simply sharing their story.
