Rebecca Love Go Fund Me for medical expenses

Hi, my name is Anna.

I have set this fundraiser up for my cousin Becky, as she is currently in critical condition in an ICU ward in Sri Lanka. My Aunty and Uncle have explained Becky’s story and ongoing medical expenses and I will be providing updates as the days go on.

On 10th December 2023 our daughter Becky set off on a trip of a life time to Asia, to find new purpose and direction, and to fulfil her dream of being a yoga teacher.

The trip exceeded all her wildest dreams and in February she fell in love with an island called Gili Asahan. This was where she decided she wanted to make her home. The islanders, particularly the children in the local school where she volunteered, loved her too and the plan was to travel to Goa in April, qualify as a yoga teacher and return to the island and make a living there, enabling her to continue to support the education of the island’s children. She had never been more excited, happy and full of life.

Sadly, on arrival in Goa things didn’t go according to plan. Before her yoga course, she caught glandular fever and became really ill.

Unknown to Becky, the virus was triggering an immune reaction in her liver causing it to stop working properly. We convinced her to fly to Sri Lanka where she could access the medical care we thought she needed. But no one including Becky realised just how poorly she was becoming and within a few days of arriving she was hospitalised with acute liver failure and sepsis. She was transferred to a private hospital in Colombo that specialise in this condition but she has rapidly declined and is now in multi organ failure.

She is on a ventilator, renal dialysis and her condition is critical. We are here with her in Sri Lanka and are doing everything we can with the medical team to keep her alive.

Despite having health care insurance, Becky’s company have found every excuse to not reimburse any of the medical bill. We have frantically done everything we can to ensure the daily hospital bills are met but costs are soaring and we are starting to really struggle.

She is loved beyond imagination by so many people and we are hoping that by setting up this page, we can help ensure Becky gets the critical care she needs to get strong enough to be flown back to the UK for an assessment for a liver transplant.

Ultimately, it would be wonderful to think that Becky could recover sufficiently to return to Gili Asahan and make a truly telling and lasting contribution to the lives and opportunities for the children growing up there.
