Rebecca Golden & Family

This is Rebecca, Age 9. 

The Most Beautifully Kind, Caring, Fun Loving, Mischievous Little Girl 

Daughter to Karen & Keith and big sister to Kayla.  

Rebecca is currently bravely battling refractory epilepsy in Temple street ICU after having undergone major brain surgery in recent weeks.

7 years ago, at just 23 months old, Rebecca was diagnosed with epilepsy.

In recent years Rebecca's epilepsy has become increasingly difficult to treat (Refractory epilepsy).

Rebecca has bravely undergone numerous hospital admissions, treatments and operations in her short life. 

In 2021 she had 2 brain surgeries to try and help control the number of seizures she was having. And again in 2023 she had surgery to insert a VNS (vagus nerve stimulation) again with the hope of helping her seizures. Unfortunately, as with the drugs, the various surgeries made little difference to the severity of her seizures.  

In July this year Rebecca was admitted to Temple Street Hospital to begin further treatments with the hope of reducing the frequency of her seizures as they were increasing rapidly. 

Within days of admission she was transferred to ICU where she was put into an induced coma to try and allow her brain and body to rest. 

During the last several weeks in ICU Rebecca has had 2 more brain surgeries (including the complete removal of the left side of her brain), she has battled both pneumonia and sepsis. 

We are devastated to say that she is very ill after exhausting all available treatment options. 

Her devoted and loving parents Karen and Keith have been by her side each and every day. She’s missed dreadfully by all her family and friends.
