REALM at the March for Our Lives
We are a group of seven students and two teachers from REALM Charter High School in Berkeley, CA that believe youth across the globe deserve safe schools. As a school rooted in social justice and activism, we are creating this fundraiser in hopes that you'll support our trip to Washington, D.C., where we plan to join the national, student-led March for Our Lives on Saturday, March 24th.
In order to be selected for this opportunity, we had to submit an application and complete an interview, explaining why social justice is important to us and how we plan to use our experience in Washington, D.C. to motivate our peers when we return. We are thrilled to say that we are the seven finalists, and we are proud to be representing our school for this important fight in the nation's capital.
While we are specifically asking for money to fund our plane tickets and lodging while we're in Washington, D.C., your support will also allow us to continue our activism when we return to the Bay Area on March 26th. As the "DC crew", we led our first local initiative this past Wednesday by organizing a 17-minute, school-wide walkout in solidarity with the survivors and victims of the school shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL and in memory of those we've lost to gun violence in our communities.
When we return from Washington, we will continue implementing social justice events such as the walkout and we will start making plans for a student-led activism course we will teach in '18'-19, our senior year of high school.
With your support, we will be able to attend this life-changing and hopefully law-changing event, and also make a change in our own school and communities.
Below is some information about us and why we're excited to attend the march.
Thank you so much for your consideration!
Love,
The REALM D.C. Crew
