Reagin’s Road to Recovery from Leukemia
Donation protected
Reagin is a beautiful, smart & sassy 14-year-old girl with a passion for horseback riding, and a very proud member of the Wranglers Equestrian Drill Team. On July 15, 2022 she was tacking up Smokey - the horse she leases to ride several times a week - and while he normally nudges her gently for petting, he began nudging her very hard as if he sensed something was wrong. She backed up into a wall and fell down and her parents took her to the ER to check for broken bones. While at the ER, standard bloodwork was ran and it was an absolute shock to find out the devastating news that Reagin has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She never showed any symptoms, and thanks to that horse it was caught early. Nonetheless, it can be life-threatening and she was immediately rushed to Children's Medical Center. She is now on the 2 ½ year road to recovery. She will endure being stripped of her health, her immune system, her hair, her 1st year of high school, hanging out with her friends, had to give away her pets, and her biggest passion in life as she cannot even be near a horse for the next year. Treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is expected to take 2 ½ years total, with intensive chemotherapy, blood and platelet transfusions, spinal taps, bone marrow biopsies, antibiotics, anti fungals, steroids, and more. Much of the treatment is expected to have strong negative side effects. But Reagin is feisty, she’s a fighter, and she doesn’t give up. She will beat this! The family has emotional support, but nobody is ever fully prepared for the kind of extreme medical expenses associated with this type of rare, unexpected medical emergency. Out of 25 million children in America, only 2,000 a year develop A.L.L. Her parents also took a huge financial blow from covid, as they had to close the business they started in 2019, and they just opened a new business in January 2022. Any financial help that anyone is inclined to donate will solely be used for Reagin’s medical expenses and medical needs. You can also support the family in keeping afloat by regularly dining at the family business, Sloppy Mess Kitchen: Joes, Burgers & More in Allen, TX. Reagin's parents work long hard hours at their business, and Reagin also worked there as a cashier. She will not be able to work while in treatment due to her weak immune system from chemo. Thank you for considering helping this family on Reagin’s Road to Recovery.
