I’ve set this page up because our beautiful Charlie was involved in a hit and run earlier this week (5th Feb) he was hit by a yellow ford Ka at north road roundabout and dragged under the car for about 30 metres. I don’t know how but he managed to free himself and ran off up north road to the garage where a lady and her daughter managed to get hold of him and get him into their car and take him to the vets. He was in a very bad way. He had to be sedated and have all his fur kn his back end shaved off to see the extent of the wounds. He has a lot of road burn and a very serious hole (which I think was friction from the tyre) right next to his bum. He was aloud to come home that night and we stayed with him in the living room all night to make sure he wasn’t in pain. He didn’t settle much as he was uncomfortable however he is a little trooper and he managed the pin really well and is slowly getting back to his bubbly loving self. After his next appointment however the vet told us that his burns would mostly end in his skin dying off. The smaller ones to his ankles could be stitched. His testicles which are badly burnt would probably end up having to be castrated. But the larger burn would not be possible to be stitched it would have to be skin graphed. A procedure that he would have to see a specialist vet for and would cost thousands £££££. Or the only other option would be to put him to sleep. This is not an option that anyone in our family want to choose. If he was in pain and couldn’t deal with it and it was in his best interest then that would be something that we would have to consider. But giving the fact that he’s not in pain and is handling the trauma better than we expected we need to save him and get this surgery done for him. I’ve set up a go fund me page so we can raise enough funds to cover this treatment as it’s practically impossible for us to just fork out money like that right now. So if anyone could donate even the smallest amount it would help in so many ways.
He’s our boy and he’s not even 4 yet, he has a long life ahead of him and it shouldn’t have to be cut short because of some senseless driver that left him for dead. This is being dealt with through the police and she will be investigated as to why she didn’t stop as it is the law to stop and report when you hit a domestic dog. We never meant for Charlie to get out, the door had been left open for a split second and he seen an opportunity and ran. No one knew which direction he had gone in and how he ended up where he did I do not know as he’s not familiar with that place. We looked and looked, obviously in all the wrong places until I seen a post on Facebook that he had been hit by a car. Our hearts sunk
Just to sit and think about how scared and confused and how much pain he must have been in breaks my heart each time. Charlie isn’t just a dog, he’s family and he’s just as important to us as the kids are and I’ll do anything and everything I can to make sure he gets through this
Please do what you can and help share this and save our Charlie ❤️
