Reading Mural in honor of Lois Waite
Donation protected
Lois Waite was a lifelong educator. Her devotion to children permeated her life. After 35 years as a teacher, Lois retired and moved to Watsonville, CA to be with her children and younger grandchildren. But the pull towards education would not go away. In retirement, she wanted to find some other avenue to offer service to her community, but she was just too good of a teacher! So she began volunteering in her son and daughter's elementary classrooms. She volunteered in third, fourth, and fifth grade at Hall District Elementary School in Las Lomas, California. She came in 2-3 times a week over the course of ten years, using her sincerity and charm like a magnet for small reading groups. She would cry with the kids and do special projects with them, support their skills in reading and English language, and celebrate their successes with her wonderful smile and warmth. Within a couple of years she was affectionately named "Ms. Waite Deluxe" by the students.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor Lois' legacy, her children would like to create a mural to the magic of reading at Hall District. We would like to dedicate this mural to Lois and all of the kids she inspired. All funds will be used to bring this project to life and updates will be provided to all donors. In this way, her love of education will be honored for generations to come.
