Cindy's Reading Bench
Cindy had a deep love for children's literature. She shared books across many genres, but she had a fondness for non-fiction. She used these books to capture the attention of her students and engage them instantly. It was truly magical to watch! Teachers often went to her to find books for their own lessons, as she had so many in her extensive collection.
Cindy also enjoyed the outdoors and was an active member in her neighborhood garden club. She enjoyed nature and had an appreciation for furniture crafted from fine woods.
In thinking of ways to honor and share her legacy, a handmade reading bench seemed like the perfect choice! What better place to put this bench then at the school where Cindy taught for over two decades, Crestwood Elementary School.
Some of you may know that Crestwood is being rebuilt and will open next fall. With your help, we would like to honor Cindy's legacy. The reading bench will be placed in the flower garden outside of the entrance of the new school. Here visitors could relax and enjoy a book, a quiet moment, or sit and laugh with children and teachers alike.
Cindy's bench is being designed and hand made by a local, well respected, wood worker from Richmond, Virginia. His pieces are one of a kind and simply beautiful. He understands the importance of creating just the right piece to honor our friend, mother, colleague, mentor, and teacher. There is no doubt Cindy's bench will be a gorgeous piece that we will all cherish for many years.
Cindy would be beyond flattered and most humbled to know how much she was loved by all.
