If you've heard of "kinetic art", like giant domino chains and chain reaction machines, then you can see the largest kinetic art exhibition in California at Reactica, an annual event hosted in San Jose, CA. For nine years in a row, the team has spent one week each summer setting up dominoes and machines and connecting them into one continuous build - then toppling that giant build on the final day. Previous events had a live audience of hundreds, an annual YouTube video with thousands of views, and coverage by local Bay Area news outlets like San Jose Mercury News, ABC7, and KTVU 2.
2025 marks Reactica's 10th anniversary, with this milestone year bringing a team of 15 builders (the largest yet) and a lofty goal of 50,000 dominoes. The theme of Reactica 2025 is "Think Outside The Box": a build depicting an escape room that solves itself as it topples. Falling dominoes will portray many familiar puzzle types and patterns, while chain reaction machines will simulate puzzle-solving actions. Just like any classic escape room, the end of the setup will reveal whether or not a successful and solve-worthy escape was performed.
The Reactica team is comprised of seasoned builders that have also helped many other teams create live domino and machine exhibits across the globe. Members of the team have built domino and machine themed commercials for clients like Coca-Cola, Pizza Hut, Gilette, Disney World, Sylvania, McDonalds, and Golden State Warriors. Part of the Reactica team even participated in Domino Masters on FOX, a primetime reality TV competition show that brought dominoes and machines to the big screen.
Come visit the team for Reactica 2025 during July 13 to July 18 at The Tech Interactive in San Jose, CA. The setup gets toppled on July 19 at 1:00 pm. We welcome all domino and machine community builders, kinetic art enthusiasts, visiting families, and members at The Tech Interactive to watch it all go down!
