Help Lee start their handyperson business
Donation protected
7/15/22 update -- I'm sad to report that insufficient funds were raised to enable me to continue doing this work. Cost of living is too high and led me to the point of burnout that was no longer sustainable. Thank you to all who donated and shared this fundraiser, I appreciate your support and it helped carry me through several months of self-employment.
Hello! I'm Lee and I'm asking for your help starting my own handyperson business.
I was suddenly catapulted into a life of self-employment and was unprepared for the financial burden it would take, while still having to afford the cost of living for myself and 2 senior dogs. Working for myself has always been my long-term goal, and making and fixing bring me joy. I am so grateful because this is exactly where I want to be...but alas, the income I earn after a fully packed day of jobs isn't enough to sustain me and definitely not enough to purchase the tools the business needs to succeed. I've had to delay and turn down jobs because I don't have the necessary equipment. Costs of goods and gas are ridiculous, electric and battery tools are insanely pricey, and even hand tools really add up, too.
Most importantly, I value making my services affordable for the community, especially my fellow LGBTQ and POC individuals. I aim to counteract the era of cis-white-male dominated tradespeople who get to gatekeep knowledge and charge prices that are inaccessible to most. (Please note that for larger jobs, I may partner with friends who identify as cis-white-dudes, who I can assure you are the finest ones around, share my values and have been my greatest allies as I break into the trades.)
So...please help my business get started with the tools it needs, help me be able to pay my bills, and help me keep handyperson work affordable for our community.
Services include light carpentry and remodeling, truck stuff, gardening/yardwork, odd jobs and anything you just want a hand with.
THANK YOU!!
-to friends who've lent me their fancy tools
-to friends who've kept me steady on this path to self-employment
-to you for reading and your support!
We are all intertwined, and I can't wait to work with you.
-Lee
