Hi my name is Pat & I’m funding for my good friend Katrina.
I’ve known Katrina for about six years, we met while working together briefly in 2019 but have remained friends.
Katrina is one of the hardest working people I’ve ever met and she always Strives to be positive despite her situation… but as of late things have gone from bad to worse and she’s in a hard place and without help, could end up homeless.
Katrina moved to Canada from New Zealand and is a plumber by trade (also a class 1 truck driver for many years). While Katrina’s two daughters were still young, her husband had a massive stroke and had to be put into a long term care facility which now meant Katrina would have to raise her 2 young daughters on her own. However she dealt with it, saved money, purchased a home and worked hard.
While at work one day for a mechanical company, a co-worker thought it would be funny to set off many firecrackers near Katrina’s head. This left Katrina hearing impaired and legally deaf. Katrina met with three different lawyers who said fighting a big company would be very expensive and due to the fact that Katrinas hearing was already in decline, WCB denied her claim. Also, The employee who played the “gag”was a temp worker from Germany and without insurance. In the end, the company paid for Katrina’s first pair of hearing aids and paid her 5k to sign a non-disclosure to shut her up permanently.
Fast forward to 2019, Katrina was working for Medi-gas doing deliveries of medical oxygen to hospitals when she had a stroke. This ultimately led to her having to sell her home last year and taking a massive hit on the property as she had bought in a peak.
today Katrina lives with her daughter & her two beautiful grand babies in a very run down , low income housing project in West Edmonton. She’s recovered from her stroke has applied for 50+jobs but due to her hearing impairment and age, she can’t even land a job at Wal-Mart.
katrina is now out of savings, and applying for Government support but is struggling to keep the lights on and food in the fridge with her family. Rent in her home is $1835 +utilities and Employment insurance will pay her 800.
all I’m trying to do is help Katrina pay her rent for a few months and afford to have a great Christmas this year. She’s hopeful she will find work soon but if not, the situation could get much worse.
if you have questions about any details call me and I will answer anything I’m able. Like I said, I’ve known Katrina for six years. I know her work ethic, her character and I know her family well.
thank you for your support.
