I am writing this about my husband and it isn't easy.
David is a native Floridian, born and raised in south Florida. He joined the US Air Force as a young man and retired after 21 years of service to his country. He is a Vietnam veteran. Through the years he owned and ran small businesses which were associated with his hobbies and passions of bass fishing, golf and college football, especially the Florida Gators. He has been the owner/operator of a small pest control business for the past ten years. Sadly he can't enjoy or perform any of these activities anymore. My “force of nature” and best friend for more than 20 years is seriously ill.
David has cancer. Specifically, Myelodysplastic Syndrome. It is pre-acute leukemia and isn't curable. After his initial diagnosis he had chemotherapy treatment that proved almost fatal to him. He has suffered 2 serious hospitalizations this year due to pneumonia and many other complications associated with this disease and was sent to a rehabilitation facility for a month to regain his mobility and strength. He is anemic and has had several blood transfusions since August. Weekly lab work is performed to monitor his blood levels including hemoglobin and platelets. David heard recently that he doesn't qualify for a bone marrow transplant because of his age. We have made several trips across Florida to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa to determine what additional treatments may be available to him. There are no clinical trials which are appropriate or that he may qualify for at this point.
David has always been a fighter and continues to do as much as he is able. However, we find ourselves in a state of financial distress as he has not been able to work at all in several months. Co-pays for numerous medications and procedures, travel expenses to and from daily, weekly and monthly medical appointments, vehicle expenses and other issues have taken a severe toll. Our savings are depleted as a result of his illness.
We are most grateful for any and all expressions of help and assistance. Prayers are always thankfully and gratefully appreciated. Please share this information if you wish.
If you are not comfortable responding in this manner, please send me a message privately. I will respond to you with an alternate way of communication.
Blessings and thanks to all.
