Reaching my dream of running professionally
Hello, my name is Deondre Spruill and I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. In a few months I will be leaving to run for a track team LC BRÜHL in Switzerland as I work toward my ultimate goal of making the Olympics. This opportunity in Switzerland will allow me to compete professionally on the 2021 European outdoor circuit. Below is a video showing some of my previous races.
I have been blessed to receive some outstanding awards throughout my track and field career.
High School: I attended Stratford high school, where I was runner up in the regional of the men's 100 meters. I finished in the top 10 in the 100m dash in the Emerging Elite Boys Division at the 37th Annual Golden South Classic in Orlando, Florida. I also competed in the 4x100m relay at the New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina.
After High school: I had to sit out from competition for 18 months because of hip flexor injury. I wanted to get back into competing at an elite level because running is my passion so I worked day and night to get better. Eventually I entered myself into meets where I competed against and beat D1 SEC and ACC scholarship athletes. All of my hard work culminated in an invitation to a world class track meet at the National Training center in Claremont, Florida which put me on a lot of college coaches radar.
College: I was offered several scholarships and decided to attend Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California where I helped my team to a state title. I scored in both the100m and 200m. I was a 2018 California Community College Association State finalist and champion, All-American, and was named freshman Sprinter of the Year. I was also invited to the Southern California USATF championship race where I had the privilege of competing against international teams from China, Zimbabwe, Bahamas, Sweden, Panama, and Japan. During my sophomore year, I received NJCAA Indoor All-American honors in the 60 meters and as a team we were indoor and outdoor national runners up.
European Circuit: I am asking for help so that I can pursue my dream to run professionally and ultimately make the Olympics. The funding will go towards all of my expenses for 5+ months in Europe including:
Housing , Flights, Ground Transportation, Race Entry Fees, Nutrition, Running Gear, Doctor and Therapist Fees.
I leave at the beginning of June which gives me about 4 months to raise the money I need. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I have learned a lot about hard work and perseverance. I will stay motivated by the struggles I have overcome and by the enormous amount of support shown by all of you. Thank you and I look forward to coming back and competing for Team USA!!!
