Hi friends and family! As many of you know, we set out last year from Los Angeles, with whatever we could pack into our vehicles, to our 3 acres in Oregon to start building our house.
In the first couple of months we managed to get all our building permits and put in a septic system, before winter hit. The locals say it was the hardest winter they've had in many years. We spent the winter in a little RV up on our mountain. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it really lit a fire under us to get this house built.
As soon as spring arrived, we started the foundation. We now have our footers and piers poured, backfilled, and next it'll be framing out the floor. We ordered an Arched Cabin kit to erect ontop of it (ArchedCabinsLLC.com). We figured it was an affordable option, and within our abilities to build. No hired contractors here; we're doing it all ourselves.
The plan is to get 'dried in' before winter. Framed, covered, and insulated. Not looking to get things completely finished, but just enough that we can stay in it during the winter so we don't have to be in the RV.
But costs are steep, worse than we expected, and our savings are dwindling. Given enough time we could handle it, but this weather is giving us a hard deadline to at least have everything enclosed and insulated by November. So we're reaching out for help.
We need lumber, hardware (which is shockingly expensive for some reason), insulation, house wrap, nails and bolts, wire screening to hold in insulation, and some basic plumbing parts. I've compiled a materials list and cost breakdown so you can see exactly where your donation will go if you decide to assist us. Every little bit helps.
Being in debt to a bank is a great source of woe to so many in our society today. But owing a debt of prayer and thanksgiving to loved ones who have had mercy is a blessing to the one who receives. We are so grateful to everyone who decides to help, and we will post updates as we make progress. Thank you, and may God bless you all.
