Hello! My name is Charmayne and I am a master's in clinical counseling student at Wake Forest University. I will be starting a PhD program in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Tennessee in the fall of this year. I have an amazing opportunity to attend an academic writing workshop in August before I begin my program, and I am raising money to off set the cost of this program and travel.
A large part of my work in counseling is writing about human attachment and trauma; specifically with incarcerated individuals. I have a passion for social justice and have found that writing about my experience and the experience of others is the first step in making sustainable change. This workshop will provide me with additional tools to increase my proficiency in academic writing and start me off on a great foot for the beginning of the PhD program.
I have worked with adolescents at an inpatient psychiatric facility, individuals on a crisis suicide line, and I am currently working in a medium custody correctional institution. I find my passion in working with under served populations. I am so honored that my career choice allows me the opportunity to sit with individuals as they explore some of the most vulnerable experiences of their lives.
I strongly believe that it really does take a village to create a PhD student and I am grateful for any support you can pass my way. My academic journey has been a long and curvy road; I could have never imagined I would be where I am today.
The InkWell Acedemic Writing Retreat is a small group, multi-day writing retreat that helps scholars strengthen their writing habits and make major progress on their manuscripts. The natural environment and intimate setting provide the space you need to stay focused. And daily coaching trains you to make better use of your writing time both during and after the retreat.
Thank you for your support!
