Street Child Cricket World Cup - Team Nepal
Donation protected
The first Cricket World Cup for street-connected children will take place ahead of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.
It is estimated that over 5,000 children live on the street in Nepal with some estimations suggesting the real number is over 40,000. The Street Child Cricket World Cup will provide a platform for these Nepali children to advocate for children like them who are facing the same struggles that they have experienced and inspire countries and communities to better protect, respect and support street children everywhere.
The Street Child Cricket World Cup (SCCWC) will unite street children from around the world to play in their own international cricket tournament to raise awareness and tackle the widespread stigma and negative treatment they face.

On the pitch, 10 national teams from Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Tanzania, Congo, Team Refugees and England , will represent their countries. The team comprises of 4 girls and 4 boys. Off the pitch, the young people will make their voices heard and make recommendations to help improve the lives of street children worldwide at an international stage.
In January 2019, Childreach Nepal and Street Child Nepal, in coordination with 5 shelter homes in Kathmandu, held a Street Child Cricket festival in Kirtipur to select the participants to represent Nepal at the SCCWC 2019. Around 150 children participated in the festival and then 4 girls and 4 boys were selected to form the team. The selection process was not just focused on cricketing skills; the selected participants will be ambassadors and represent all the street children in Nepal. They will use this international platform to voice their rights to education, protection and basic needs. This is a life changing opportunity for these young ambassadors and we need your support to get them to UK to participate in the SCCWC 2019.
The young ambassadors will spend a week in the UK, not only playing cricket but also becoming involved in the decision making process through their participation in a child congress and art festival which will benefit all street connected children in the world. After the event, the young ambassadors will return to Nepal as National heroes, regardless of their performance on the cricket pitch. The knowledge and resources they have gained during the event will enable them to be agents of change towards addressing the pressing issues faced by street connected children in Nepal and globally. With the assistance of Childreach Nepal and Street Child of Nepal, a legacy programme will be designed to address the needs of these young ambassadors
For our friends living in the UK, you can also come and support and meet the team in person in Cambridge from 4th to 6th May 2019 and at the Lords cricket ground on the 7th of May 2019 .
