I am running the London Marathon for Against Breast Cancer
Our Story
My wife Lucy was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2005, the year after we were married, then again in 2023.
The treatment that followed the initial diagnosis changed the course of our lives and forced us to reevaluate everything from our health to our plans to start a family.
Breast Cancer has been an underlying theme in our lives for the last twenty years. Within this time two of our aunts and Lucy’s sister-in-law have also been treated for the same illness. The mother of one of our son's school friends very sadly died of breast cancer two years ago.
You may have already been touched by breast cancer; but the uncomfortable truth is that, if you have not already, then it is highly likely that someone you know will be affected at some point.
The research into Breast Cancer is evolving fast, but it is vastly expensive. Against Breast Cancer funds pioneering research into new treatments, tools for earlier diagnosis and advice to reduce the risk of recurrence and secondary spread. Working with expert scientists they seek to increase the survival rates of all breast cancer patients and ultimately, discover a vaccine against breast cancer.
I have committed to raise £2500 for Against Breast Cancer.
This is a lot of money to generate at a time when we are all feeling the headwinds of a fast-changing world. So, if you do feel able to contribute to this cause, that affects so many lives, please donate whatever you can.
Every donation will impact someone’s life.
If you feel this is a subject that will resonate with anyone that you know, please do share the link with them.
Your donation is massively appreciated!
Thank you,
Phil
PS: For some added jeopardy, I am running the London Marathon with a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament and two Meniscus cartilage tears (sustained playing six-a-side football with my eldest son three years ago) I was not able to run after my injury and it is only through the help of my family, Christopher McDougall (Born to Run) and the ongoing inspiration of Rich Roll’s podcast, that I have been able to teach myself to run again using the barefoot method (midfoot strike instead of heel strike). After countless hours spent on the treadmill and strength building, ever since I have finally been able to run over distance and without pain, I have wanted to run the marathon.
