Leigha's Road to Recovery Fund

Hi everyone!  I'm writing today to tell you about my neice, Leigha, 6. The week before Thanksgiving she and her mom, Jill, were very sick with flu like syptoms. After going back to the medical center  for a second time, Leigha was immediately taken by ambulance to Helen DeVos Childrens hospital in Grand Rapids, MI.  Leigha has since been diagnosed with Steven-Johnsons syndrome which is a disease that attacks mucous membranes. She has been in the ICU since arriving at DeVos where she has been sedated and on a ventilator the majority of the time.  Her parents 
(Travis and Jill) have stayed by her side at the hospital to help keep her calm when she does wake.  This disease is very painful and causes her skin to be extremely itchy.  When Leigha does come to, she  often is very aggitated and tries to take out her breathing tube, itches at her blisters, or is just scared as to where she is and what the nurses are doing. Having her parents there to support and comfort her is essential in helping her recover.  The nurses and doctors have given no timeline as to when they expect Leigha to recover. It could take weeks or months (which could mean Leigha wouldn't be home for Christmas).  There is no way to tell at this point which makes them focus on small baby steps to recovery day by day.
    Travis and Jill have not asked for anything.  They have always lived a modest lifestyle and are proud to do things on their own.  However, in a situation like this, it is impossible to forsee the amount of medical bills or other daily expenses that will incur.  I set the goal for this page with uncertainty. It may be high, but at this point their total expenses are undetermined. After listening to all our friends and family, everyone justs wants to help but is unsure of how to do so. I set this page up to give an option. Donate if you can, if not... thank you for your prayers and other support. Meals, visits, a kind word, etc... are all appreciated more than you can even imagine. I know that when Travis and Jill discover the amount of support they have fully received, they will not have words to express their gratitude.  They are already in shock everytime someone sends something to the hospital!
