Help Save Dusty the Chihuahua

If you know me at all, you know how obsessed I am with my dog, Dusty. Since the time I was 10 years old, Dusty has been my companion, confidant, my child and my best friend. He has been the perfect dog; dependable, loyal, non-judgemental and unconditionally loving. Through his twelve years of life he has faced many obstacles and survived, from a busted head when he was just a year old, to broken legs and ribs, as well as kidney stones (which we ironically both suffered together at the same time)! Through everything, he has been a part of my family and the most stable aspect of my life, and no matter what I went through, I knew somehow, he would always be there. Today, Dusty faces another huge obstacle.

In the early morning hours of November 2nd, my mother observed Dusty having labored breaths, quickly leading to a blue, suffocated tongue. She rushed him to the Emergency Vet, where they diagnosed him with Congenital Heart Failure. His heart was so swollen that the heart valves no longer fit correctly, leading to fluid filling his lungs and causing his inability to breathe. Dusty was quickly put in an oxygen chamber and had the fluid pumped from his lungs. With this diagnosis, there is treatment through medication, which doctors estimated would prolong his life for many more years. Without the medication, however, Dusty would continue to suffocate and we would be forced to put him down. To us, that was not an option for a beloved member of our family. Dusty has never abandoned us, so we would never walk away from him.
At this point, Dusty has undergone many tests, blood examinations and hours in an oxygen chamber. The estimated cost of his treatment from this hospital visit has come out to $3,000. This does not include the cost of medications and checkups to come. With my mom being a single parent on disability and myself still paying my way through college, we're struggling to gather the funds needed to get Dusty on the road to recovery. That is why we have decided to turn to our wonderful family, friends and community for support.
The smallest contribution can make the biggest difference in Dusty's recovery. We won't be able to do this without you. These donations will be used to pay Dusty's medical expenses, so we can get him back to being the exciteable and goofy dog he once was. Your thoughts, prayers and good vibes also mean the world to us if you're not able to donate. Please feel free to share this link with anyone who has a soft spot for dogs and may be able to help.

Dusty has quite literally been everything to me since the day we brought him home. There is not another dog like Dusty in this universe and I'm not ready to accept a world without him. We can work together to help this amazing dog live the rest of his life out in happiness and health. I don't think there will ever be the right words to express how much your contributions will mean to me and my family, but thank you for just taking the time to read about the love of my life in dog form. You are changing our lives and I could not be more grateful.
Thank you a million times over,
Drew & Jody Teora
