Rebuilding After the Apartment Fire

On January 2nd 2026 my apartment burned down friday night around 7pm.

It was around 7pm that night and luckily there was a good Samaritan frantically knocked on each door in my building and I went to see what was going on. He told me the laundry room downstairs was on fire and as soon he said that I turned my head and I saw the smoke and flames. I lived on the 2nd floor and had to escape to a smoke filled stairwell to run out to the parking lot. By the time I got down, the staircase was in flames and my neighbor who lived across from me had to jump off the balcony while her two kids cried and screamed for her to come down. We all just stood on the sidewalk and watched our homes burn in a matter of 5 minutes as we waiting for firefighters to extinguish them. Not even knowing if or when they’d arrive. Had we not had someone knock on our doors to alert us, We would have been stuck inside with no way out.

As of now I am 1 of 14 displaced between 8 apartment units. I lived alone while the other five are families. In the aftermath we were provided little to no financial relief, And the majority of my music equipment, All of which was in my living room is either faulty or destroyed by water damage (firehose) due to my ceiling collapsing. My computer is the primary tool on which I work (recording, video editing, etc.) was ruined in this fire and is no longer functional.

This was one of the most terrifying things i’ve experienced. I am lucky to have escaped with my life (as are my neighbors) and this happened in preparation for a move from Louisiana to the East Coast.

This fundraiser will go towards replacing the computer and other music equipment, resuming my move and its expenses and finding a new home. I am fortunate enough currently to stay with friends in the meantime but must start securing shelter and finances very soon.

I know we all don’t have it but anything helps, Especially sharing the fundraiser who may want to donate. Thank you all for your support
