Tabitha Hooper January 11,1981 –November 3,2020
It was just supposed to be another typical day. The first Tuesday in November of this year wasn't supposed to stand out for anyone, let alone the friends and family of Tabitha Hooper.
The 39 year-old single mother said the usual goodbye to her 11 year-old daughter Roni, and made her way to RCSS 1506. She walked through the doors of RCSS 1506 just like she had done for the last 8 years.
As usual, Tabitha arrived with her sense of humour and smart wit, joking with the customer service gals and co-workers in PCX. Ten minutes later, without warning, tragedy would strike. Tabitha Hooper was in medical distress. But despite the heroic measures of in store colleagues first on scene, First Responders and medical professionals, Tabitha was pronounced dead leaving an empty void in so many hearts and lives.
At the young age of 39, this single mother was also the primary caregiver to her Mother who herself is suffering with medical issues. Tabi’s Father had passed away a couple of years ago. Tabi was the glue that held the 3 of them together. And now that has all changed in a flash.
Tabitha was an intricate part of the Superstore family. And as a family member, we take care of each other. She started at Superstore 1506 in Winnipeg on March 26, 2012 as a price checker. She quickly changed roles and was a cashier and eventually helped out at Customer Service.
She was extremely pleasant and engaged with customers, quickly becoming a fan favorite.
She changed roles approximately 3 years ago, where she excelled in her new role as concierge in PCX with her typical warm and wonderful calm voice. She has received numerous “kudos” for her outstanding customer service. Regular customers often asked for her by name.
Away from the store, Tabitha had a love for animals. She had a dog, Sage and absolutely loved horses. One of her delights was spending time taking her daughter Roni horseback riding.
Roni was the light of her life. Tabi was extremely proud of her daughter and was always bragging about her. Tabi loved taking Roni to her Highland dancing classes and recitals. They also traveled together to places like Las Vegas and Orlando with her daughter’s dance group.
At the age of 39, one does not prepare for this kind of tragedy to happen. Tabitha lived for her daughter. Now it’s up to all of us to help out Roni. We know that’s what Tabitha would of wanted.
We are reaching out to anyone who can help with a donation for her daughter. We would like to help Roni continue with her passion for dance and help her continue her education without “Grandma” having a financial burden.
