Eviction Imminent Please Help Us

Help Please!
We are elderly residents in a 55+ mobile home community and we are located on the Jupiter Inlet, and a archeological dig in the 1950s revealed that a portion of the property is actually built on a prehistoric Indian village site known as a midden, or mound of cultural artifacts such as pottery chard, animal bones and shell, inhabited by the Hobe Indians. We are about 150 seniors, including 26 veterans, and 6 widows of veterans, and many of us have lived in the affordable housing of Suni Sands for decades.  The town has the political powers, a wealthy developer has the money, and we have eviction notices. This is not a fair fight, and we are pleading for Help to aid us with our attorney fee's to fight this eviction, and preserve our community and a piece of history.

Suni Sands has been an active mobile home community for 66 years and is one of the last vestiges of "old Florida" left in Jupiter. It is possibly the oldest mobile home community in all of Florida.

Our average age is 70 years old, most of us have a fixed income, and we were offered $1,00.00 dollars per household to abandon or move our mobile homes, many of them are 30+ years old themselves and could not survive a move, and with an estimated cost of $10,000.00 - $20,000.00.

We have listed just a few good reasons for you to help us protect Suni Sands

1) Historical Indian Relics - see above

2) Sperry Boathouse - The Sperry family built a boathouse on Suni Sands more than 100 years ago, and that structure still survives today.

3) Celestial Railroad- There are relics of the Celestial Railroad which still survive on the Suni Sands property

4) Destruction of Sea Life and Habitat- There are many Manatees and the sea grasses they fed on, as well as sea turtles, dolphin and an enormous variety of fish and marine life that would be severely altered, if not destroyed by the dredging that would be required to accommodate current proposed plans of development.

5) We have pleaded for years with the town council to protect Suni Sands and they have failed us. We have repeatedly contacted the local media, local newspapers and tv stations, working hard to get the Truth printed for the public view, with no avail. In exchange for all our good efforts we have received mass eviction notices from the developer-given the minimum time allowed by Florida law, unless we sign documents agreeing to waive all rights and legal claims against the developer.

For all these important reasons, we need your help now. We need assistance in order to continue to do the right things for the right reasons, for "Old Florida" and for historical preservation. We have filed two lawsuits hoping to receive fair treatment under the law. These legal efforts are very expensive, and we are not wealthy people.
