Hannah's eye surgery and medication

Donation protected

Hannah is a 16 year old high school student whose car broke down right outside of town. She and a friend decided to get in the back seat and call for help, and as they were waiting, somebody in a pickup drove by and shot her car. Luckily, neither of them were killed, and her friend got away completely unscathed (physically), but Hannah could not see out of her left eye, and was bleeding. She had to be rushed to the ER, and after finding out there was a 3mm piece of metal lodged behind her retina, she was transported by ambulance to a city 2 hours away to see an eye specialist. It was a piece of the bullet. Her first surgery went well, and her doctor says she is healing quickly, but she will need a second surgery when she is healed. They still do not know if she will ever be able to see out of that eye again. She is in good spirits, though, as are her friends and family. Unfortunately, none of this will be cheap. She has insurance that will cover some of it, but there will be some out of pocket fees that her family will need help with, along with possible counseling fees that are never really taken into consideration. It is going to take her a lot of courage to overcome being a victim in this horrible drive-by shooting, as well as possibly being blind in one eye at a mere 16 years old, so any bit of help is very much appreciated!

Here, she didn't know yet that there was a piece of the bullet behind her retina. She had shards of glass all over her skin:

High spirited Hannah:
This is a picture of her eye after surgery - they had to remove the bullet fragment and replace the space with an air bubble so her eye would keep it's shape. The eye will naturally fill back up with fluid on it's own:
A couple days later, the eye is slowly starting to fill up with fluid, making the bubbles dissipate. Her sister got her this adorable eyepatch to wear around:
