Hello! My name is Shayla Little and I am ecstatic about this amazing opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica with the African Diaspora Alliance (A.D.A.).
I am currently a sophomore at Overlea high school with a cumulative GPA of 4.47 (having consistently been on the honor roll since the second grade). My scholastic achievements include inductions into the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Student Government association (S.G.A.), and the Future Business Leaders of America (F.B.L.A.)
Beyond the classroom, I am an ambassador for Black Girls Global Exchange (B.G.G.E.), a Jr. design assistant for Home Couture Designs and a proud member of my High School's Cross Country and Basketball teams.
This is my second year in the Y.O.T.D Program (A.D.A), where I’ve been instrumental in facilitating workshops with other youth groups such as "Youth Ad Resources" (Y.A.R), along with assisting in the "No Boundaries" Community volunteer organization.
Again, I am humbled to have been afforded this opportunity of a life time to travel and study abroad, but I need your help. I have to raise 1,000 dollars to make this dream a reality, and with your generous support, I know I can reach my goal! Please consider making a contribution to solidify my financial obligation to be apart of this journey.
Here’s a little more about the program:
The mission of The Youth of The Diaspora (YOTD) Program is to provide a culturally
relevant, youth centered, and social justice focused outlet to high school students in
Baltimore City. This is done through a series of weekly workshops focused on exposing students to global Black history, community organizing techniques, civic engagement, and community healing methods. Since 2015 YOTD has organized study abroad opportunities for Baltimore students to Havana also. This year they will be venturing off to Costa Rica!
