When your think of Yorke, peppermint patties may come to mind. But, if you’re a true Norfolkian and had the pleasure of attending Granby High School, you know Senora all too well. She’s an edgy educator who has a knack for making rap lyrics her own, enticing her “chickies” to conjugate using the pluscuamperfecto (you had to be there), and making the most out your high school experience. Even if you weren’t lucky enough to take her Spanish class, Camille Yorke-Riddick has the kind of presence that radiates across comet land. Even with the consistent challenges of being a teacher and an ongoing battle with cancer, she never complained. She never complains. At 48, she’s still fighting the good fight and she married the love of her life right before experiencing her 12th surgery. He’s definitely standing(here sitting) by her side. I witnessed the most genuine love in only a 30 minute visit. (Talk about a love language! ) Because of the urgency of the surgery, they’ve spent their honeymoon at Norfolk General Hospital. They’d rather spend it in Seattle. I want to make that happen and I’m sure you do too. Be a good sport and support Senora Yorke by donating an amount of your choice.
