Our Mothers Funeral Expense

Donation protected
We are the son (James Bautista) and daughter(Leah Lokelani Ostroff) of Rachel Bautista. Twenty years ago, our mother was diagnosed with Lupus. Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease, that can damage any part of the body. (skin, joints and/or organs). Since then our mom has been fighting for her life. Lupus led to kidney failure.
In 1997 our mother had to have a kidney transplant. Her brother Harold Harmon was the one who gave her the kidney. After the transplant, Lupus went into remission. She had on and off pain throughout those years.
Around 2002, her hip and right knee bone started to deteriorate. This led to a limp, and within a few years, left her in a  wheel chair/scooter.
In 2010 we found out the transplanted kidney failed. We would like to feel blessed to have had 13 years of that kidney. At this point she needed dialysis or die. Her dialysis was three times a week, for three and a half hours per session. She held with more strengh than anyone we know.
In 2011 she damaged her Aorta. (Hearts main artery). This caused her to go under open heart surgery. Due to a medical "error" she had to have another one. She seemed to be recovering until three weeks later, she had a stroke. Medical staff did not find her for over twenty minutes. Due to the delay, her left arm and leg were partially paralyzed and never regained full function.  She had four years of stability since.
Janurary 2015, she was diagnosed with Chronic Heart Failure. She was heartbroken. This is what our Grandma Aileen died from. Her heart doctor informed her, that it was her liver failing as well. So that her liver would cause her more problems in the long run than her heart. The heart docter gave her 6-9 months to live. She just exceeded that time.
Around three months ago, she got admitted to the Queens Medical Hospital due to low blood pressure, and a blood infection which turned out to be Gangrene in her right foot. She went into cardiac arrest and almost passed a month later, but still fought through. The Heart Surgeon had an option to try and open one of her heart valves. After more thought, he said that it would not prolong her life, or garrentee to alieviate pain. Options are running out, and so is time. No doctor knew what to do for her. Her foot is dying, her liver, heart, kidneys, and vascular system is failing.
As of this point, her only options are to live in the hospital on dialysis, or Hospice. The hardest decision she has ever had to make. She decided last week saturday, she would rather spend a few good weeks with her family, than to be in prolonged pain on dialysis in the hospital. She never qualified for life insurance. She will be coming home to her apartment, doing home hospice. Doctors say without dialysis, she has 9-14 days to live.
I James Bautista am a veteran and college student, with a wife (Shalayna Bautista) and two year old son(Angel Bautista), and my sister Leah Lokelani Ostroff is a barista at starbucks. We work very hard to take care of what we have. But we do not have anything near what the price of a funeral, plot, and casket cost. Our moms one wish is to be properly buried. We are trying everything we can to make that happen. Please help us, for those who know our story, and those who are now reading it. We Love our mom, and this is the hardest time of our lives. Anything helps if you can. Any questions, feel free to contact us via Facebook, Leah Lokelani; or email at [email redacted]
