We were trapped in the aftermath of Helene as the flood waters destroyed our bridges, roads, infrastructure and town. It will be months before we can return home as power, water and roads won't be available until after the winter.
We're safe for now in temporary housing but we were forced to abandon our car, clothes and anything that didn't fit in a backpack as we left for the rescue boats.
Everyone is going through hard times right now and we're amazed by how many people have banded together to ensure we all make it through this safe. Before we were able to get out our entire community worked hard, sharing resources, utilizing skills and relying on each other. We're going to have to rely on each other from here out.
Our pets and parents are still trapped in Burnsville. We're doing everything we can to get back to them and hopefully bring them out as well but progress is slow. Anna and I are hoping to get back to town soon and help deliver what supplies we can, help in any way we can but we still have so much to replace of our own to be stable.
Everything helps, everything matters and together we will recover from this awful event.
