I'm raising funds to help cover the cost of gender affirming top surgery. Some pals of mine got together to draft a letter, asking for your help!
They wrote:
One of Maine’s brightest working-class queers is having gender-affirming surgery this spring. If you’ve eaten veggies at Portland’s restaurants or bought flower bouquets or mushrooms in town, there is a good chance you’ve benefited from Ray's labor and skill. This surgery will bring immense joy, transformation, and relief to our loved one and we need your support to ease the journey.
Our friend is a brilliant artist, farmer, derby skater, all out beautiful human. But even the worst trans people deserve access to life-saving care. Ray just happens to be top-tier.
We need to raise $7,000 this spring. This is to cover direct medical costs, lost wages, and post-op care needs. Ray’s insurance covers the procedure but coverage in this country is a joke and costs are outrageous.
Even though insurance is a joke, top surgery definitely isn’t. Ray won’t be able to lift their hands above their head for two weeks post-op, and full recovery can take 6-8 weeks!
