This is Raya’s story, and it’s one that touches everyone at the Logan County Humane Society. Raya, a gentle and loving Pit Bull cross, was brought to our shelter after suffering a gunshot wound. She arrived scared and in pain, but her spirit shone through from the very beginning. Despite the trauma she endured, Raya greeted us with hope in her eyes and a wag of her tail, showing us she wanted to fight for her life.
When faced with the difficult decision of whether to euthanize Raya or attempt a life-saving surgery, our team knew we had to give her a chance. Thankfully, our friends at the Veterinary Medical Clinic—who continue Dr. Fredregill’s incredible legacy of caring for shelter animals—stepped in to help. With their compassionate care and support, we were able to move forward with surgery to remove her injured leg. In loving memory of Dr. Fredregill, whose compassion continues to save lives like Raya’s every day. Raya’s recovery has been remarkable. She recently had her stitches removed and is now back at the shelter, surrounded by staff and volunteers who are dedicated to her healing. She still needs to be spayed and continues to receive physical therapy, learning to adjust to life on three legs. Through it all, Raya’s sweet nature shines—she loves to see people and enjoys short walks, always eager for affection and encouragement.
Our mission at the Logan County Humane Society is to protect and care for animals in need, and Raya’s journey is a testament to the resilience and hope we see every day. When she’s fully healed, we’ll be searching for a loving home that can offer her patience, understanding, and the chance to thrive as a tripod dog. With your support, we can cover Raya’s medical expenses and ensure she—and other animals like her—get the second chance they deserve. Thank you for believing in Raya and helping us turn her story into one of hope and healing.
