Ray's Cleft Palate Surgery
Donation protected
Ray Schmitt was adopted from China in 2008. He was born with a bi-lateral cleft lip and palate. He has had 12 attempts to repair his lip and nose and to create a palate for him. Most surgeries to repair his palate have failed. His mid-face is behind his bottom jaw, making chewing food and speech articulation difficult.
Ray was also diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. EDS is a connective tissue disorder where the body cannot produce or store collagen. This makes tissue frail, increases healing time and makes joints overly mobile causing frequent dislocations.
Friends and doctors involved with Ray’s care referred the family to an oral surgeon known for his newer techniques and his reputation for taking on the toughest, most challenging cases. He reviewed Ray's case and has agreed to see him at the University of Michigan Medical Center this month.
We are asking you to prayerfully consider a financial donation to the Schmitt family. Your contribution is greatly appreciated and will help to reduce their out of pocket expenses.
