On Wednesday, March 26, 2025 the unthinkable happened. Ray Ray had what the doctors referred to as a "large stroke" and was rushed to the hospital and quickly air lifted from Fayetteville to Wilmington to the neurological science center for observation.
A large stroke, also know as a massive stroke, refers to a stroke that has significant brain damage, potentially leading to long-term disabilities and widespread brain damage. They still aren't sure what exactly caused it, but are trying to rule everything out and possibly prevent it from happening in the future. She had a thrombectomy and they were able to get the entire blood clot and open up blood flow to her brain again. They are amazed at her progression given the size of the clot. They're also checking for a PFO on Monday, which is a hole in her heart that they think may have been a cause for the stroke.
Thursday she started getting sensation back to the left side of her body and by Thursday evening, she was lifting her knee and hand with little help. On Friday when I arrived, she was moving around the bed and I got to witness her physical therapy which was amazing to me knowing what she just went through.
We ALL know how much of a hard worker our friend is, she was standing with help, she was shuffling to the left and right with help, she could lift her arm but barely lift her leg. Our boo is a FIGHTER!!!!! Physical Therapy is going to be the worst part for her cause she's always doing a million things and for everyone else at that ❤️
All the PT's and doctors are super impressed with her progress and she is being released TODAY to acute care for the next 2 to 3 weeks which is very close to the facility. She's in now and hopefully be able to learn how to be self-sufficient again.
The road to her recovery is just in beginning stages and bills just don't stop. Drew has been by her side since it happened, as well as her sister who flew in from san diego and I thank them so much because she's definitelty needed the support. He hasn't been working either.
Everyone remembers a time where Rachel listened, where she showed up for you, where she gave you that shot or that hug after your long day. Everyone knows how much she puts everyone else's needs before her own, and most of all Everyone knows she would NEVER EVER EVER ask for help. So we as a team as her support as her cheerleaders will ALL do it for her.
5 dollars 10 dollars 100 dollars, EVERY DOLLAR HELPS our RAY RAY so please, remember all the good times, and if you donate, I'm sure she would love to hear one. Donate and share a funny moment in the notes or and uplifting message, she will love it more than you know!
Thank you for even reading this, let's help our friend get through the toughest days of her life while taking the stress of bills off her back ❤️
