Background:
I first went to Ghana to study in 1994 and met Nii Tettey Tetteh, a Ghanaian musician whom I developed a close working relationship with. I then started taking my students on study tours to Ghana to learn from Tettey and his group the Kusun Ensemble. Over the years we have run over twenty tours. Tettey and I toured Australia and overseas performing as a duo for many years. Tettey still lives in Ghana and is regarded as a leader in his community. In 2022 he was named Ghanaian Traditional Musician of the Year.
Who we support:
The people we support in Ghana all come from Tettey’s community.
There are other families both in Ghana and Sri Lanka (where I was born) who we support as well. Monies raised goes to help with school fees, books, uniforms, medical expenses and unfortunately sometimes funerals. I know all the recipients personally and the monies go directly to them rather than via an agency.
