Ray Harrington Dedication-Regis College Scoreboard

Donation protected
From 1981 to 2000, Ray Harrington was synonymous with Regis College Swimming & Diving. As the head coach and Assistant Athletic Director, he lead his team to numerous championships, countless All-Academic honors as well as National recognition while ending his career with an astounding 240-85 record. Sadly, on November 26, 2017, Raymond J. Harrington passed away at the age of 68. His legacy will long be remembered as will his personality and love of athletics.

The family of Ray, along with a few of his former athletes, including current Regis College Head Swimming & Diving coach, Diana (Coughlin) Matthews, are hoping to get a new scoreboard installed and dedicated in his memory. We are asking for support from Ray's family, friends, former colleagues, and students so that this dedication may be made possible this spring.

Ray was inducted into the Salem High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997, and the Regis College Hall of Fame in 2006, and in 2018 the Eastern Mass Swim Coach's Hall of Fame welcomed him. In 1995, he received the Division III Coach of the Year award. His legacy was one of the winningest teams in New England. Coach Harrington emphasized the “student” in student-athlete and his teams were one of two teams to be granted “all academic status” every semester that the award was given by the College Swim Coaches Association.

He was instrumental in starting both the Salem High School and Regis College Swim Teams. His friendships and devotion can be felt throughout the North Shore. He graduated in 1967 from Bishop Fenwick High School, 1971 with a bachelor's degree, from Bridgewater State University, and a Master’s Degree from Salem State University. He taught in Peabody at the McCarthy School from 1971 – 1981. Ray also taught at North Shore Technical Vocational High School where he retired as Vice Principal in 2011. His love of sports was evident as coached football, swimming and baseball for a combination of over 50 years at the Salem YMCA, Salem High School, and Regis College. He was also former President of Peabody Little League and during his younger years he was a caddie at both Salem and Tedesco Country Club.

Your donation, no matter its size, will have a significant impact on our efforts to raise the funds necessary for the new scoreboard to be installed in Ray's name. As Ray used to say "None of us is as strong as ALL of us."

Thank you.
The family and friends of Ray Harrington
