My name is Luis Garcia and I am seeking assistance for the Velasco Family. I have been Raul's "Home Teach" teacher for the last two years. I am deeply saddened by Raul's Velasco's condition as his dire health persists and he has little interaction with the outside world. This letter/gofundme is long over due.
Raul Velasco is a 16 year old Montclair High School Student who has been out of regular school for the last 3 years and has been placed in the in the Chaffey Joint Union High School Home Teach program due to a serious skin illness.
In middle school Raul was bullied. Raul was injured during a bulling incident. Raul did not tell his family right away and an abrasion he received during the bullying incident escalated to a serious infection. Since then he has been diagnosed with Hidradenitis suppurativa and has been out of school for three years. Here is a link for more info:( https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hidradenitis-suppurativa/symptoms-causes/syc-20352306 )
He was unable to sit during class and has been unable to sit during Home Teach sessions. Raul can only lay down or stand up. It is extremely sad to see that Raul has zero social interaction with children his age over the last 3 years. He recently had a birthday and received no gifts other than a fast-food treat.
Raul has had multiple unsuccessful surgeries to rectify the most serious legions. Raul has finally been referred to a specialist in January. The doctors think that his condition will be a life-long battle. In fact, his mother is brought to tears when she describes that the doctors have lost hope for a healthier Raul in the future.
The Velasco family is in desperate need of your financial help.
Mr. Velasco (Raul's father) is currently out of work. Mr. Velasco has had several kidney stones removed recently and also suffers from nerve damage in his arm and shoulder from repetitive manual labor at work. He wants to go back to work as soon as possible, but he has been unable to do so. He is receiving some disability, but his work refuses to acknowledge his arm and shoulder injury is work related.
Mrs. Velasco (Raul's mother) suffer's from epilepsy. She has frequent seizures and is unable to work. She has frequent dizzy spells and has to use a walker. She no longer receives workman's comp or disability.
Ami (Raul's sister) is 24 and is the household caregiver. Receives $968 a month from the state to be a caregiver.
The funds will be used for basic necessities and mortgage payments. They have an outstanding loan on their primary vehicle (mid 2000's Toyota) they need to take care of. They have been referred to local food bank and do receive food stamps.
The main bill they must pay is to the gas company. They owe $900 for the gas company. Their household has been out of gas since May. That means they cannot cook food and they do not have hot water. The household must have hot water in order to properly clean Raul's wounds. Sometimes they cook with a propane gas barbeque inside. They have been advised not to cook inside with propane due to possible carbon monoxide. They have their phones and water shut off frequently as they try to prioritize needs.
Their home is in disrepair. They have leaks in their roof and need to remodel and clean their restroom of mold to be able to clean Raul's wounds adequately. They are also need of an exterminator service to take care of a bug problem.
The Velasco Family is in desperate need of relief. $10,000 would start to get them back on their feet. They are getting ready to lose their home and vehicles. They need to fix their home and get their gas bill paid.
