Greetings, my name is Baba Ross-Walcott.
Hurricane Melissa recently ravaged the island nation of Jamaica. We are raising funds to help farmers in the western part of Jamaica that were affected by the devastation. Myself a farmer, I understand how critical it can be when you lose your livelihood. I lived through Hurricane Gilbert 37 years ago with my wife Mharia, who was pregnant with our daughter. I experienced great loss myself at that time.
In March of this year, I visited the western region and have a fresh memory of my beautiful island country and the resilient people who are sustaining the local food system. From the breadfruit and coconut trees, plantain and banana and all varieties of fruit trees to the ground crops of yellow yam, cassava and every kind of vegetable– people need fresh food to sustain themselves!
We will focus this support for four established farmers in the parrish of Hanover, with tools and amendments, water lines and seeds to anchor the land for sustainable food production in the coming weeks and years. Many people will be blessed with great encouragement!
Please help support this great cause by donating to our GoFundMe. It will support the small farmers to restore the land and feed the people of this great country.
Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.
