Hi, my name is Sandra and I am raising funds for my 6 year old son Rassel to have own bone marrow transplantation so he could live his life to the full potential. Due to having damaged neurons in his brain - Rassel’s development is delayed and currently Rassel still has the mind of 3 year old. Rassel has heavy speech delay. I had to take Rassel out of school due to the fact he was unable to cope even with 3 hour long school day. Rassel would not get involved in games with other children and also he would rather just play by himself. When Rassel was at school he would refuse any activities with others and would not learn - just sit in the corner of the classroom alone and play with toy animals.Teachers could not get connected with him as he would not open up. Rassel wouldn’t talk at all, just make noises. Rassel also would refuse to use shared toilets in school - leading to even more frustration and anxiety. Also Rassel would not eat in school - even the packed lunch with his favourite meal became a burden to him in school. So I took a decision and started Elective Home Education. Many things improved, Rassel started to sing, dance, draw, colour, write, talk occasionally, but still only at the very delayed level according to his age. We have had some progress, but I have exhausted all the possible support to my son and it is still not enough. While being in waiting list for diagnosis assessment which is only due in 2027 and this information was given to us back in 2022 - I couldn’t just sit and wait for the miracle to happen, because when you see that your child is missing out on his childhood because the damage in his brain, it just rips your heart out. I am full time carer due to my son’s condition, Rassel can’t be left alone even for a minute, he does not understand what danger is and must be accompanied all the time. Finally after 3 years of searching and learning and many private specialist visits we have found the way out of this. The treatment by nature is patient’s bone marrow withdrawal in hospital in Georgia - extraction of stem cells and injection of them into the spinal trunk (intrathecally). I have contacted the clinic and they are happy to do this for my son. Finally I see the light at the end of tunnel, but I cannot do this alone that is why I have set up the GoFundMe for my son. Thank you for reading Rassel’s story.
