Rasheed's Legacy: A Bright Future for Jackson
Donation protected
On July 24th, we lost Rasheed Lockheart. Many of us lost a friend, a brother, a mentor--and Jackson lost his dad.
Rasheed was a deep thinker, a person who loved hard, who made friends easily. While incarcerated, he committed himself to service and care for other people, first as a Gold Coat taking care of elderly and sick incarcerated people and then as an incarcerated fire fighter. In these roles, he regularly saved lives. Towards the end of his incarceration, he was motivated by the goal of starting a family. When he came home in 2020, he set to work building a family and a life as an advocate for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. He advocated to reduce legal barriers for formerly incarcerated fire fighters to get jobs as fire fighters on the outside. He worked to provide stability and healing for other formerly incarcerated people going through reentry. He volunteered and worked to support kids with incarcerated parents. He shared his unforgettable smile, resilient heart, and wisdom with so many since coming home.
In 2021, he became a father to sweet Jackson. Rasheed was devoted to Jackson and loved him with all his heart. It is a tragedy that Rasheed won't have the opportunity to see Jackson grow up and have the kind of life and opportunities he wanted for his son.
His community has reached out and asked how to help support. Join us in honoring Rasheed by contributing a fund to support Jackson's future -- his education, care, and the necessary resources for coping with losing his dad at a young age of three and a half.
