Our family has many wonderful traits: great sense of humor, loyalty, kindness, generosity and ornery laughs. Unfortunately, this family also has one bad genetic trait called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. This is a progressive condition that impacts the lungs and liver. My brother, Kevin, has the most severe form of this condition. His symptoms started 20 years ago and his condition has progressed to liver cirrhosis and severe COPD. Kevin spends most of his time at doctor appointments and getting procedures done to help with his symptoms. His medical team has told him the only thing to save his life is a liver-lung transplant.

Kevin and his wife, Heather, are fighters and are doing all they can to make the best of this situation. Heather is working full-time and picking up overtime when offered. Kevin has worked since he was 14 years old but was forced to quit due to his poor health. They could use much help with medical bills and other expenses, such as travel and boarding for extended specialist evaluations and groceries that fit all the dietary recommendations Kevin has to follow.

Kevin and Heather will be spending several days at the Cleveland Clinic for his transplant evaluation at the end of January. We will add updates once we learn more.
